it's been more than a week

and a lot has changed.

Let's see;

Jimi said he would come up and sand the drywall if I actually got around to putting it all up. So, that kinda lit the fire, having the O-sensei of sanding offer to sand your drywall is a very great honor indeed. So, had to get moving.

Fun with PEX!

started running the pex for the bathroom, realized I didn't plan for insulation, so pull it all back out, insulate it, and do it again;

Laundry rough in. Junction is for the AAV vent for the washer drain.

Bath rough in. Some folks wonder about why bother to insulate the cold water runs. It's pretty simple. Insulating hot water lines is about saving energy, hopefully, but insulating the cold water runs is about keeping the pipes from 'sweating'. Reducing the chance of condensation getting the wall insulation wet, and keeping moisture out from behind the wall.

bath wet wall insulated, almost ready for drywall.

And the inexorable march begins again;

Uggg,

and then the vile mudding begins;

Bob worked so hard on this, I have done what I can, and I'm really really no good at this at all.

And it goes on,

And on,

and on,

and never seems to stop.

Jimi arrives tomorrow, and the sanding begins, ready or not, here it comes.

Uggg.

it dawned on me that

it's been a week since last entry.

So, not a lot to report, and few pics.

Over the weekend, Tracey took me up to Davis early Sat morn, we stopped by Kidwell's over in Thomas, picked up a 27' u-haul, went to H&H hardware, Met with Matt Sherald of Pimby Energy LLC, who ferried a bunch of my PV solar stuff up from where he's been storing it for me for quite some time. We loaded that on the truck then it was over to Davis and the pulling out the roots began.

So, I'm out of Davis, my beloved home of these many years, the realization of an ambition, now fulfilled. It didn't really hit me until i was powering down the now-deceased Davis Free Community Wireless Project, that I was, in fact, leaving. Sigh.

Lots of trips up and down the stairs, always down with a pretty fair load started to work on my knees. By the evening, I was most certainly aware of the fact that my knees are not those of a young man. My dearest neighbors came home some time after dark and we visited for a while, then they went off to bed, So I brought the moving to a halt. Soon as I heard them rummaging around in the morning, I was back at it. And is so often the case, they came and began helping right as I really needed that push over the ridge. I have the best neighbors, i will miss them sorely. But a new chapter is beginning.

I took no pics, it was horrific, but I loaded that 27' truck to the door. Then up the road to State College. Soon as I pulled in, knocking the gutter off the side of the house, I manged to stick the truck in the backyard, spent the rest of the evening trying to unstick it. Failing that, I went to bed. Up on Monday, I realized how foolish I was being trying to unstick a full truck. So I unloaded it all over the backyard are, and then about 2 hrs later, managed to get it to move, then move out. Knocking what was left of the gutters off the house, I got it back out to the street, then began loading the shed. To the rafters and to the door, it all fit!

Rolled the big dummy up into the truck and headed off to take the truck back all the way across town. In typical U-Haul fashion, they stuck me for an extra day, I was supposed to have it back in by 9AM, or some such silliness. Whatever. I got on the big dummy, and headed back across town, my knees screaming at me the whole way, thank you Stoke Monkey for getting me home safe.

Big Dummy

Stoke Monkey, the knee saver!

Anyway, Google Maps gave me a bicycling route back across town that took me on a single track ride through freshly manured fields, my winter tires throwing big chunks of cow nutrient all over the place. it's a great thing, google maps. Sigh.

But, it was all done.

Then on Tuesday, I suffered with my knees, rode the big dummy to the post office to return a set of postal carrier mailbox keys and GSA credit cards that I found on the ride back from U-haul, then back to town to the library, then to the grocery, then home, hoping to keep my knees from just locking up.

Then today, I was feeling so much better, so Bob came over on his Transit

And despite all this cargo-age (portatis oneris) we opted for the car and trailer to go fetch in what we hope will be the last of the drywall for this phase, and loaded it into the house. Then Bob headed off down the road.

So, I went and started loading out some of my secret composted humus to prepare some beds for planting, and I'm already running late. but this stuff is wonderful, smells like spring time, shot through my mycelium.

This stuff was just a big pile of leaves in the fall, when Tracey and I dumped our vermicomposting bin out there in the leaves. Them little beings went to work on it. Need to get some more worm bins up and running, but there is so many 'need to's right now.

Speaking of which, I finally got around to this:

As if I needed all that technology to

Tell me, Yes, the Weather is Perfect!

we moved the ball forward a bit more.

I can't believe it's been nearly 2 weeks since I last updated the blog. For those few, those happy few who follow this blog, I apologize.

So, moving along.

Well, remember these?

And this?

Well, they became this;

and this;

and eventually, this;

and this.

I know, that doesn't seem like a big deal, but it was a big amount of work, and I'm glad it's in the rear view.

In other news, still boiling sap.

And to what end?

This;

And since we've given away about a quart and a half, we're doing pretty good, and the sap is still running. After today, I think I'm going to pull the taps though.

But in other news, this is what some folks think is the big stuff;

Yes, the drywalling has begun in earnest.

No more pink walls.

And spring is coming;

and it's a nice day, so I should get back to work.
